DEP's Bureau of Organizational Development & Human Resources (OD&HR) is at the focal point of these exciting efforts, which is concentrated on ensuring our operation is staffed with the best-qualified, developed, healthy, happy, and engaged employees.

Project and Position Overview:  DEP’s Bureau of OD&HR’s, Strategic Workforce Planning & Employee Engagement Directorship is seeking to recruit 10 Engagement & Wellness Liaisons to join us in partnership with WorkWell NYC as we strive to empower all DEP employees within NYC’s five boroughs and Upstate NY regions live healthy and active lifestyles – at work, at home, and beyond. Through our partnerships, we will offer convenient and accessible health and wellness programs to DEP employees in our remote office locations (i.e. repair yards, wastewater treatment plants, reservoirs, etc.).

These are unpaid volunteer positions.

Key Responsibilities: The Engagement & Wellness Liaisons will work alongside the Deputy Director of Employee Engagement & Wellness to support ongoing:

  • Organizational delivery and maintenance of WorkWell NYC programming at various DEP worksites (i.e. prepare for virtual classes/talks/events, manage employee attendance, track and distribute employee rewards, assist with set-up and breakdown of event spaces, compile and share attendance metrics, etc.)
  • Partnerships with designated agency leaders to support remote worksites interested in expanding engagement and wellness promotion activities (i.e. deliver, distribute and post internal communications, obtain employee feedback, etc.)
  • Volunteer recruitment and onboarding efforts (i.e. New Hire Orientation, etc.)
  • Engagement and wellness activities/events to deliver solutions that build an effective, high-performing, engaged, healthy, and accountable employee workforce (i.e. Lunch-n-Learns, Employee Recognition Ceremonies, Employee Resource & Wellness Groups, etc.)

Location: This is a remote opportunity to work supporting various DEP office and field locations across the five boroughs.

Qualifications:  

  • A current college/university student and/or New York City agency employees
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills, or willingness to develop them
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to multitask and work in a high-pressure environment
  • A team player; able to work independently or as part of a team to accomplish set goals
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, including MS Excel, Word and Powerpoint
  • Must have access to a desktop computer or laptop

Time Commitment: The desired start date is December 2021 onwards with an end date of June 2022, with the possibility of extension.  The position requires commitment of 10-15 hours/month.

Volunteer Supervisor: This position will report directly to the Deputy Director of Employee Engagement & Wellness.

Training/Support Provided: The Engagement & Wellness Liaisons will receive a NYC Service / DEP orientation and have ongoing bi-weekly check-ins with their supervisor for the duration of the project.

Benefits: The Engagement & Wellness Liaisons will receive experience working in local government, as well as a letter of recommendation and proof of service upon successful completion.
