Volunteer opportunity description
The 2021 Serve-A-Thon focuses on a series of virtual workshops addressing the intersectionality of food justice followed by a virtual service activity with a non-profit partner organization.Each virtual workshop includes a dialogue with an anti-hunger organization on the intersections of food security and hunger with social issues such as environmental justice, racial justice, urban development, and public health. Volunteers will then participate in a 1-hour virtual service project to support the fight to end domestic hunger.

Monday January 18th
12-2pm EST/9-11am PST
- Food Justice is Cultural Diversity: Culturally appropriate food assistance
- Food Justice is Racial Justice: Racial wealth gap learning simulation
- Food Justice is WIC Justice: Food assistance for women, infants, and children
- Food Justice is Mental Heath: The intersections of trauma and injustice

- Faith and Food Justice: Teen focused workshop on the impacts of faith on anti-hunger work
- Food Justice is Health Justice: A health equity training
- Food Justice is Housing Justice: Environmental and sustainable housing and food justice
- Technology for Positive Social Change with HFA: The role of data in hunger solutions
5-7pm EST/2-4pm PST
- Food Justice is Spirituality: A conversation with faith leaders on food insecurity
- Food Justice is Housing Justice: The intersections of housing and food assistance
- Food Justice is Racial Justice: BIPOC communities and food insecurity
- Food Justice is Racial and Gender Justice: Race, gender, and food insecurity
Tuesday January 19th

- Food Justice Cultivated in Participatory Systems: A people powered model of justice work
- Food Justice is Immigration Justice: Language, migration, and food insecurity (*Spanish/English)
- Food Justice is Mutual-Aid: An alternative to the charitable model

2:30-4:30pm EST/11:30am-1:30pm PST
- Food Justice is Housing Justice: The Cancel Rent Movement
- Food Justice is Land Justice: Sustainable land ownership for Black and Indigenous farmers
- Food Justice is Partnership Building: Food, health, and the economy in Central Oregon
- Food Justice is Youth Empowerment
5-7pm EST/2-4pm PST
- Conscious Volunteerism Brings Food Justice: The role of volunteerism in hunger solutions
- Food Justice is Food Policy: MLK's legacy and the impacts of COVID on community, state, and national food policy
- Food Justice is Human Rights: No one should go to bed hungry
- Food Justice is Spirituality: A conversation with faith leaders on food insecurity
