Volunteer opportunity description

Give a helping hand to the Lower East Side community, and assist with food delivery to neighbors in need.

The United Jewish Council of the East Side (UJC) works to support the Lower East Side of Manhattan through a wide range of human services and community development programs. While the majority of programs are oriented to the needs of elderly, UJC also operates programs for families and children. UJC volunteers are essential to our mission as we serve the community.

DETAILS:
Food Pantry & Delivery Assistance Volunteers support staff at both UJC's food pantry on-site in the Orenstein Building and on walking deliveries to clients. As a volunteer, you will help organize and deliver food packages. Tasks include:

- Assist with sorting and stocking food pantry shelves
- Help pack grocery items for delivery
- Independently deliver food packages to clients on walking routes

Tasks include bending and lifting heavy materials. No experience is necessary, and training is provided on site. Carts are provided for easy walking transport. You may also bring a personal grocery cart if desired, although not required.

Volunteer shifts take place rain or shine, and involve walking within approximately 60 minutes of the UJC site. Some delivery assignments involve multiple trips from the UJC site. UJC practices recommended social distancing and safety protocols related to COVID-19.

You can join compassionate people in supplying and delivering nutritious food to the community.

DAYS & TIMES:
We are looking for volunteers who are available on weekdays, 10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., with greater need on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

We are seeking extra volunteers on weekdays throughout the month of March. If you are interested, mention specific dates that you are available in your application.
