Volunteer opportunity description

Part of the Solution (POTS) is a 'one-stop shop' for social services in the Bronx that nourishes the basic needs and hungers of all who come to our door.

POTS’ Community Dining Room (‘soup kitchen’), is the heart and soul of the organization. To-go meal service takes place from 12:15-3:30 pm in a fun, fast-paced, interactive environment.

POTS relies on volunteers to help run our Community Dining Room. Volunteers are asked to sign up in advance, should be at least 14 yrs old & do many of the tasks that they would do at a restaurant, with the exception of any cooking. Working together, POTS staff & volunteers ensure that while they are with us, our guests are provided with a dignified environment and treated with respect.

Due to COVID-19, many of the activities involve helping clean up our kitchen and bagging up fresh produce for our clients. We ask that all volunteers provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 upon arrival.

  • We ask that volunteers are at least 14 years old
  • Please wear clothing and shoes that are comfortable and conducive to working in a lively, fast-paced environment.
  • Please leave your valuables at home! If you have something you’d like locked up, please ask a staff member.
  • Please wear closed-toe shoes. Protect your feet and keep us citation-free—it’s a Board of Health requirement.
  • Aprons are provided to protect your clothes. Hairnets and gloves also keep the environment germ-free. If you’d rather not wear a hairnet, bring a hat instead.
  • Volunteers must be vaccinated or in the process of becoming vaccinated.
  • Fill out an application first here! Volunteer Application
