Volunteer opportunity description

iMentor is fighting to rebalance the odds by giving every student a fair chance to graduate college and pursue their dreams.

iMentor partners with high schools in low-income communities, where a majority of students served will be the first in their families to attend college.

We match every student with a mentor and equip our mentors with the resources to support their mentees on the path to college graduation.

Our mentors are college-educated volunteers who commit to working one-on-one with a student for a minimum of three years. Mentors will connect online with their student once a week and meet in-person once a month, using the iMentor curriculum to guide them.

  • Please Note: If you are applying now you will be considered for a match in Fall 2019. Apply as soon as possible to expedite your process!

At this time, we urgently need 200 more male mentors. Women are more than welcome to apply as well!

What do you have to do?

  • Send one weekly email on an interesting topic that iMentor provides
  • See your mentee once a month for two hours at an iMentor organized event

How will you have an impact?

  • 83% of iMentor mentees graduated from high school (compared to NYC rate of 61%)
  • 74% of mentees enrolled in college (compared to the national rate of 33%)

Other reasons to become a mentor:

  • 40% of our mentors told us they were happier at work because of their participation with iMentor
  • 65% of our mentors said their leadership skills had increased through the iMentor experience
  • Joining iMentor provides you with an opportunity to network with other professionals in New York at our mentors-only networking events (happy hours, speaker series, sporting events, etc.)

To become a mentor, please fill out and submit our online mentor application!
