Volunteer opportunity description

MFTA provides thousands of NYC’s arts and cultural organizations, public schools, and community arts programs with the supplies they need to run and expand their programs. We gather unneeded materials from companies and individuals and makes them available, for free, to the artists and educators that do. In the process, hundreds of tons are kept out of landfills every year, which helps sustain our environment, promotes reuse, and reduces waste.

We have fun, hands-on volunteering opportunities available for corporate groups, schools, and clubs of all sizes, whether for community service, team-building, or just for fun. Our materials are housed in a 35,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Long Island City, easily accessible by mass transit from Midtown Manhattan. Volunteers prepare the warehouse for twice-weekly “shopping days” for our recipients by sorting and stocking donations. We also provide facilities for lunch. This is a great opportunity to show New York that you care about the arts and the environment!

We ask that you give us at least 2 weeks advance notice. We can accommodate groups of up to 20 adults. Larger groups are subject to special consideration. If you are a student group under the age of 18, we ask that you limit the size of the group to 15 with at least 2 chaperones to supervise. 2-, 3-, and 4-hour volunteering opportunities are available.
