Volunteer opportunity description

Join Met Council and Jewish Home Lifecare in commemorating the 1-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy by helping vulnerable elders in our community to prepare for future emergencies. Volunteers and seniors will learn important emergency preparedness tools together and put together emergency go bags for clients in Met Council and Jewish Home residences.

Activities will include:

  • An interactive learning service orientation on emergency preparedness led by Met Council Hurricane Sandy Recovery staff

  • Escorting wheelchair-bound elders to and from the activities

  • Helping elders assemble over 200 emergency go-kits for residents of Met Council low-income housing sites and Jewish Home Lifecare locations


To participate, you must preregister by October 9th

This is a great opportunity for families, groups, and individuals of all ages* who enjoy working with elders!

*Volunteers under 14 must be accompanied.
