Volunteer opportunity description

Brooklyn Community Services is participating in a broad relief efforts to assist Brooklyn residents in Coney Island – one of the areas most severely devastated by Hurricane Sandy. 
BCS Coney Island provides:
Benefits Assistance
Mental health and family counseling
Support and guidance around entitlements
Essential furnishing (beds, stoves, refrigerators)
• Youth Development
Volunteers with a background in engineering and/or construction who could assess construction needs for clients in rebuild programs. It is important to have assessments to protect clients and make sure their needs are met during the rebuild process. 
Volunteers will research sources from which goods and services can be acquired and distributed to those who are in need. Items needed include beds, other household furniture and appliances, and personal essentials. Volunteers may be asked to assist on special projects such as assessmnets and reports regarding housing and property. Volunteers may be asked to assist in the construction and development of homes/property.
