Volunteer opportunity description

Help a struggling student this summer! Our summer literacy and math tutoring program runs from July 1st through July 31st and is held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings at PS 163 on W. 97th Street. At the beginning of each session, a literacy or math teacher provides a group lesson and distributes assignments and all necessary materials for the tutors to review and reinforce the newly learned skills with their students. Tutors are matched one-on-one with an elementary school student and will work with the same student throughout the summer. We also offer enrichment sessions (including chess, art, dance, board games, etc) that are led by our volunteers, so let us know if you have a skill or interest to share!

New volunteers must attend an orientation session and provide two references and information for a background check. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Volunteers commit to tutoring at least one day a week for all five weeks of the program.

Tutors must participate in all 19 sessions or commit to all 5 Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. Email Emily at for more information, or download a registration form here:
