Volunteer opportunity description

As a literacy tutor, you'll facilitate activities focused on essential vocabulary words, listening skills, pronunciation, and reading comprehension. Most importantly, you’ll share your love of reading.

This program requires a commitment of 1 1/2 hours per week (Monday - Friday), not including travel time. We'll pair you with two students, each for one 45-minute tutoring session.

Schedule: Weekday mornings or afternoons; September 29th-December 19th, 2014

Time:  Varies by school

Location:  One of 5 partner schools:

P.S. 15 Lower East Side

P.S. 73 South Bronx

P.S. 81 Brooklyn

Brooklyn Landmark

P.S. 160 Jamaica, Queens

NOTE: Tutors particularly needed for the South Bronx schools. Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desired, but not required, since you would be working with ELL populations.

To Apply: Email by September 16th, 2014

Requirements: All volunteers must attend one hour-long new tutor orientation and be fingerprinted by the Department of Education before entering the classroom. The Fall 2014 New Tutor Orientation will be Wednesday, September 17th and Thursday, September 18th, 6-7:30pm, at the CFK offices, 325 West 38th Street, Suite 1404 (you only need to attend ONE evening).
