Volunteer opportunity description

At this time, Bill Payer is not in need of any volunteers as we are volunteer program is shut down as a result of COVID-19

Managing the monthly bills can be overwhelming and cumbersome for anyone. For a senior who may have no one who can assist, when bills are left unpaid and piling up, life can have serious consequences. If you know how to balance a checkbook and pay bills, then consider becoming a Bill Payer volunteer. Play a vital role in helping seniors continue to live independently at home.


Work with a senior in your community to help manage monthly bills, prepare checks and balance his or her checkbook

Review bank statements

 Compile a detailed monthly report of your activities

Skills Preferred:

  • Ability to speak languages other than English desired (preferably Spanish, Russian, or Chinese), but not required


  • General training on working with senior clients and money management will be provided

Time Commitment:

  • Volunteers serve any day of the week
  • Hours are flexible to allow for a mutually convenient time for the volunteer and client to meet
  • On average, volunteers serve once a month for approximately 4 hours
  • Minimum one-year commitment strongly requested

**Please note: Currently recruiting volunteers for the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island.

  • Possess compassion, patience, and empathy for older adults
  • Desire to help
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information
  • Meet background check and fingerprint requirements
  • Attend a DFTA Volunteer Information Session
