Description & History
PSS, founded in 1962, is an innovative, multi-service agency working for New York City’ older adults, caregivers and their families. PSS creates community and builds the capacity to thrive by delivering vital tools, programs, and resources.
PSS’s local centers for older adults and other facilities offer a broad array of free programs including PSSLife! University. PSS Circle of Care provides free, professional hands-on consultations and vital information to family caregivers for a loved one with a serious health condition, including Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
The PSS/WSF Grandparent Family Apartments is the first residence in the U.S built to provide housing for grandparents raising grandchildren while the Alberta L. Alston House offers apartments for low income older adults. The free PSS Youth and Young Adult Services assists persons aged 12-19 who are being raised by someone other than their parents and kinship caregivers of any age. The Coming of Age program inspires people 50+ to live with passion and purpose.
PSS also offers volunteer and internship opportunities. 90 cents of every dollar raised goes to providing services and programs.
