The mission of The New York Public Library is to inspire lifelong learning, advance knowledge, and strengthen our communities.

The NY P L has been an essential provider of free books, information, ideas, and education for New Yorkers for more than 100 years. Founded in 1895, NYPL is the nation’s largest public library system, featuring a unique combination of 87 neighborhood branches and 4 scholarly research centers.
