Description & History

The Washington Square Park Conservancy (WSPC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping historic Washington Square Park a diverse and historical urban green that is clean, safe and beautiful. The Conservancy works together with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation to maintain the park now and for many years to come.

Funded programs include: two late-night maintenance positions for the summer and through the fall; plant material for the decorative flower beds; Parks Department Playground Associates during July and August; and a full-time gardener dedicated solely to Washington Square Park. The Conservancy has brought many neighborhood volunteers to the park for planting and cleanup days and aims to create opportunities for expanded community involvement.
