Description & History

The American Cancer Society, Brooklyn is the local chapter of the national organization, and like all local ACS chapters, we focus on i)service (helping patients and families, offering free mammograms)and ii)raising funds to pay for these programs and the national American Cancer Society research program - the largest private cancer research program in the world.

We're always looking for cancer survivors and family members to help us reach out to newly-diagnosed Brooklyn residents, many of whom are elderly and live alone.

We're also looking for people who want to help us fund-raise (throw a party for us, help with our annual Gala, organize a Relay for Life in your neighborhood) - it's a great cause and really rewarding work! We really want to raise more funds so we can grow programs here in Brooklyn.

As the only borough-wide cancer service organization, there is so much more we could be doing if we had help.

We're a staff of 16, personally very dedicated because it's a personal issue for us, and we're open to ideas, help, leadership - volunteers are the backbone of our success, and we welcome you.
