Overview of City Service Corps Program for Host Sites

City Service Corps is an AmeriCorps program administered by NYC Service in which individuals are recruited to serve full time at select City agencies for 10 months. City Service Corps members are diverse civic leaders building their pathway to a public service career. Each member’s role serves to build capacity, add value to agency priorities and/or OneNYC strategic goals and initiatives, and support in delivering vital resources or programming to more New Yorkers.

City Service Corps Mission: City Service Corps partners with City agencies to address critical local needs through direct engagement with residents, the development of new programming and the management of resident-facing programming. 

City Service Corps Vision: New York residents will have a better understanding of and access to programs designed to positively impact their quality of life.

Host Site Application Process

Step 1: Request an application HERE

Step 2: After requesting an application, host sites will receive an email with all application materials within 24-48 hours, including detailed instructions on how to create a position description for their requested position(s)

Read through all application materials prior to completing your application.

Step 3: Complete the online application, including attachments of the position descriptions for all requested positions

Step 4: Once the application is submitted, NYC Service will review the project based on a rubric. NYC Service will either: a) reject the application, b) provide suggestions for improvement with a resubmission, or c) accept the application.

Returning host sites/projects: past performance as a host site will be taken into consideration when evaluating your overall application.


Financial Commitment for Host Sites

City Agencies hosting a City Service Corps member pay a host site fee which covers the member’s stipend and is expected to pay Employer FICA Costs. The funding will be transferred via intercity transfer via OMB by the beginning of FY22

Review host site fees and the financial commitment expected from a host site partner.


City Service Corps Members

  • Serve full time from September – July
  • Member benefits include:
    • Living stipend - $19,350
    • Monthly unlimited MetroCard
    • Eligible for healthcare (covered by NYC Service)
    • Childcare
    • Student loan forbearance
    • Education award – approx. $6,345

Read the City Service Corps Outcome Evaluation by the Urban Institute outlining how organizations benefit from the City Service Corps members’ service, the extent to which members gain valuable skills, and whether they continue to be civically engaged after completing the program.


Criteria for hosting a City Service Corps member:

  • Must be a City Agency that has a new or emerging program area that needs to expand its capacity and/or programming.
  • Host site will provide a space and access to technology systems for each AmeriCorps member
  • Host site will provide a supervisor for their AmeriCorps member(s) who will provide guidance, management, and coaching support
  • Supervisor will attend a full-day orientation prior to the start of the program
  • Supervisor will attend three 2-hour training sessions throughout the program year
