NYC Service Bureau Program

Overview of the NYC Service Bureau Program

As a division of the Mayor’s Office committed to promoting civic engagement through volunteerism and service, NYC Service has a history of partnering with City agencies to engage residents as volunteers. Established in 2017, the NYC Service Bureau program builds on that history of partnership by providing funding for City agencies interested in establishing or expanding volunteer programs.

More than just a grant program, the Service Bureau is a collaborative volunteer capacity-building model that grew out of NYC Service’s commitment to promoting equity and inclusion in our city through volunteerism. Through the Service Bureau, we provide technical support to our grantees, including coaching, volunteer program tools and templates, training on data collection and narrative building, and guidance on promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in volunteer outreach and management. Additionally, we seek to foster a supportive community beyond the grant cycle by developing a cross-agency network of volunteer program staff to increase city-wide volunteerism efforts.

Interested in joining the NYC Service Bureau?

If your city agency is committed to creating or expanding a volunteer program that integrates diversity and accessibility and supports the development of an equitable and inclusive city, please apply.

The application for FY25 funding has closed. If your city agency is committed to creating or expanding a volunteer program that integrates diversity and accessibility and supports the development of an equitable and inclusive city, please reach out to nycservicebureauprogram@cityhall.nyc.gov.

NYC Service Bureau funding can also be used to host a City Service Corps member, provided that the member spends a majority of their time working on your agency’s volunteer engagement efforts. Rather than filling out two applications, agencies can indicate their interest in Service Bureau funding within the AmeriCorps host site application. Simply indicate that you are interested in hosting a City Service Corps member and then indicate that you are interested in applying for Service Bureau funding to support the member’s stipend. These indications will in turn reveal the relevant questions within the application.

The joint application is now closed.
