Project Move-In Day Banner

Project Move-In Day is a cross-sector initiative that supports graduating high school seniors as they transition into college dormitories or independent/off-campus housing.

Through Project Move-In Day, business partners work alongside City agencies to help assemble and provide essential home-supply kits for college-bound students who are part of the Department of Homeless Services’ Future Leaders Scholars Program or residents of NYCHA developments.

These students are preparing to begin their first semester of college and often face financial and logistical barriers during the move-in process. Project Move-In Day helps address these challenges by ensuring students receive key household essentials before the academic year begins.

How Project Move-In Day Works

  1. Coordination: NYC Service works with DHS and NYCHA to identify eligible students and determine kit needs.
  2. Kit Assembly:  Items are ordered and Project Move-In Kits are assembled
  3. Distribution: Kits are delivered to students prior to the start of their first college semester.

Project Move-In Kits

Project Move-In Kits include commonly required household items for college housing, such as towels, comforters, sheet sets, pillows, laundry hampers, and other essential supplies.
