Strategic Workforce Planning Liaison (Volunteer)

DEP's Bureau of Organizational Development & Human Resources (OD&HR) is at the focal point of these exciting efforts, which is concentrated on ensuring our operation is staffed with the best-qualified, developed, healthy, happy, and engaged employees. 

Project and Position Overview:  DEP’s Bureau of OD&HR’s, Strategic Workforce Planning, Employee Engagement & Wellness, and Internal Communications Directorship is seeking to recruit 10 Strategic Workforce Planning Liaisons to join us as we work collaboratively across the organization to collect and review ongoing workforce data, assist with organizational development programs and initiatives throughout the Agency, and support Engagement and Wellness and Internal Communications programs. 

These are unpaid volunteer positions.  

Key Responsibilities:  The Strategic Workforce Planning Liaisons will work alongside the Strategic Workforce Planning Coordinator to support ongoing: 

  • Organizational delivery and maintenance of Strategic Workforce Planning initiatives for various organizational development programs (i.e. Asylum Seekers Volunteer Initiative, Remote Work Pilot, Utility Benchmarking Surveys, etc.) 

  • Workforce data review and compilation for development of various periodic reports (New Hire Orientation Reports, Exit Reports, SWPEEWIC Metrics Reports, etc.) utilizing MS Excel, MS Powerpoint and MS PowerBI 

  • Development and revision of standard operating procedures, and process workflows utilizing MS Word and MS Visio 

  • Engagement and Wellness/Internal Communications initiatives in support of building an effective, high-performing, engaged, and healthy employee workforce (i.e. Lunch-n-Learns, Employee Recognition Ceremonies, Employee Resource & Wellness Groups, etc.) 

  • Miscellaneous clerical duties including recording meeting minutes, updating, and organizing unit documents (both physical and on MS SharePoint), data entry, and filing. They also develop and update datasheets for program and task tracking 

Location: This is a hybrid opportunity to work in support of various DEP office and field locations across the five boroughs and upstate NY.  Some in-office days are required to support in-person events. 

Qualifications:   

  • A current college/university student 

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, or willingness to develop them 

  • Strong time management and prioritization skills  

  • A team player; able to work independently or as part of a team to accomplish set goals  

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Visio, PowerBI) and Canva or willingness to learn 

  • Must have access to a desktop computer or laptop and an internet connection 

Time Commitment: The desired start date is Fall/Winter 2024 onwards with an end date of June 2025, with the possibility of extension.  The position requires commitment of 10-15 hours/month.  

Volunteer Supervisor: This position will report directly to the Strategic Workforce Planning Coordinator. 

Training/Support Provided: The Strategic Workforce Planning Liaisons will receive a NYC Service/DEP orientation and have ongoing check-ins with their assigned supervisor for the duration of the project. 

Benefits: The Strategic Workforce Planning Liaisons will receive experience working in local government, as well as a letter of recommendation and proof of service upon successful completion.
