Mentor a High School Student

Student Sponsor Partners (SSP) is a New York City nonprofit that harnesses the power of quality high school education and mentorship to help students in underserved communities escape the cycle of poverty and reach their highest potential. For over 35 years, our programs have elevated the lives of thousands of minority students by providing equal opportunity and access. We’re looking to YOU, caring members of our community, to join our mission and create change for future generations.

Mentorship is one powerful way you can impact New York City students. As a mentor, you will dedicate time to support a student through their four years of high school and have the guidance of the SSP team to grow your mentorship. Mentors are encouraged to meet with their student 1 - 2 times a month through phone and/or video chat and text in between, and meet in person as possible/comfortable.

  1. Submit a Mentor Questionnaire: This online form should take 7 - 10 minutes to finish.
  2. Complete a Background Check: Once we receive your application, you’ll be asked to consent to a background check through Sterling Volunteers.
  3. Meet your Mentee: Student Sponsor Partners will search for the right student for you to mentor based on your gender, location, experiences, and personality.
