VOLUNTEER CENTER – SPECIAL EVENTS PROGRAM ASSISTANT

 
Lighthouse Guild is the leading not-for-profit healthcare organization dedicated to addressing and preventing vision loss.  Our mission is to provide exceptional services that inspire people who are visually impaired to attain their goals.  With Lighthouse Guild, people who are at risk for, or affected by, vision loss have access to all the resources necessary to lead full, independent, and productive lives. We provide services, research and education, and advocate to help people with low vision and blindness. Our vision is a world in which no person is limited by their visual capacity.

 
The Stephen T. Pearlman Volunteer Center administers the volunteer recruitment, screening and interviewing, orientation, training and education, placement and referral, retention, and recognition processes for Lighthouse Guild. Our current corps of volunteers consists of 600 volunteers who contribute to the success of the organization and carry on the legacy of service of the organization’s founders. The Stephen T. Pearlman Volunteer Center is also responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating special events that bring value to the clients and programs of Lighthouse Guild.  These events are often made possible by generous donations from corporations and philanthropic individuals.

Opportunity will start in Mid-May 2025

Volunteer Opportunity: This position is ideal for a volunteer with project management experience who is good with social media and can assist with all aspects of managing special events; including researching and creating theme-based activities, creating budgets, creating agenda/run of show for the event; and using their artistic skills to create the props needed for a successful event.  The ideal candidate is an individual who is a self-starter who can work independently and with little guidance; comfortable managing all aspects of a special event or research project. Event planning or hospitality background a plus.

 

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist the Department with all aspects of event coordination from budget creation to sourcing event supplies.
  • Assume leadership on day-to-day activities necessary to execute a successful event.
  • Determine if additional manpower/volunteer support is necessary.
  • Act as primary liaison with Department that benefits from the event.
  • Generate donor acknowledgements, inventory donations as needed.
  • Conduct research as needed to turn event vision into reality.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required.
  • Ability to navigate the Internet, including social media, required.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills required.
  • A people person with strong customer service orientation and good interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter who is willing to help wherever needed.
  • Experience with or Interest in project management, event planning or nonprofit philanthropy is a plus.
  • Ability to take and follow instructions and apply critical thinking skills.
  • The ability to exhibit excellence in the execution of your responsibilities required.

 

Details of the Opportunity: The ideal candidate is available during business hours 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. We are flexible with establishing your schedule during these hours and request your presence in the office at least 4 hours per day.  Please submit a resume to volunteer@lighthouseguild.org.
