GreenThumb community gardens are developed, led, and cared for by dedicated volunteer gardeners who critically upkeep them as public green spaces.
La Casita Garden in the East Village has been cared for by community members for many decades, primarily enjoyed for social gathering and celebrations. The garden is looking to improve the space to recruit more members and improve growing opportunities.
Join La Casita Garden and GreenThumb for a volunteer workday to build and fill metal raised beds using simple hand tools to support the current garden improvement projects. This is a great opportunity to learn how to join community garden while supporting an essential community space. Beginners are welcome! No prior experience necessary. Please wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and bring water and snacks. Note: Some tasks may involve lifting heavy materials and extended periods of bending, squatting, and moving.
