Urban Farming in Far Rockaway

The Campaign Against Hunger operates two urban farms in Far Rockaway, including one that is under development.  Both are close to the Beach 44th Street train station near Edgemere Avenue.  Farm volunteers work closely with the Lead Farmer and other staff to maintain TCAH’s farms. This includes but is not limited to manual farm work and assisting with the general activities on the farms, including farm stand operations.

Responsibilities

 

Manual Labor

·         Hands-on farming activity.

o   Organically fertilizing, watering, seeding, transplanting, harvesting, weeding, etc.

·         Tend to chickens

o   Ensure chicken needs are met by harvesting eggs, feeding chicks and cleaning the coop

·         Fill and maintain compost bins

Farm Stand/ Farm Sales

·         Assist with set up and breakdown of TCAH farm stands

.         Provide great customer service for residents

·         Ensure the general market space is kept clean and tidy
