Bowery Residents’ Committee (BRC) is one of New York City’s largest and most comprehensive social service agencies, committed to supporting individuals who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless. Each day, we see how deeply compassion can transform lives—and it is the generosity of volunteers like you that enables us to fulfill our mission with both heart and impact.
The holiday season is our busiest time of year, and also one of the most meaningful. For many of the individuals we serve, Christmas can be a painful reminder of hardship and loss. Yet with the support of volunteers, it also becomes a moment of comfort, dignity, and genuine human connection.
This year, BRC will host holiday celebrations at multiple locations across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and during the days leading up to the holiday. These gatherings bring warmth, joy, and a true sense of community to those we serve—and your participation would make an especially meaningful difference.
Activities can include decorating and set-up of the service and dining areas, meal service, and post-meal clean up.
If you’re interested in volunteering, please note that all volunteers must complete the BRC New Volunteer Registration Form (a link will be provided once you submit your interest here) and attend a brief orientation session. The sooner you complete these steps, the more opportunities will be available to you. Shifts are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and tend to reach capacity quickly, so early registration is encouraged. By planning ahead, you’ll have the best chance of securing a role that fits your schedule and allows you to make the greatest impact.
Please note:
-
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to participate.

Important: Please disregard any reference to specific locations, days, dates, or times that may appear in this posting. Each BRC program — located in Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, and Brooklyn — will host its own holiday celebration on different days and times, both prior to and on the holiday itself. These shifts will be made available to those who have pre-registered once scheduling opens.
