Pitbulls Are Family, Inc. was founded in 2021, born from a deep love for pit bulls and a frustration with the barriers their families face every day. What started as a small passion project quickly grew into a nonprofit mission — fueled by the desire to break breed stereotypes, combat housing discrimination, and support underserved communities.
Like many grassroots organizations, we were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, which made it even more difficult to secure the funding and visibility we needed. But we didn’t stop. We kept building partnerships, spreading awareness, and finding new ways to help — one referral, one resource, one family at a time.
We may not have a physical shelter or flashy headquarters (yet), but we have heart, dedication, and community. With help from compassionate supporters like you, we’re expanding access to pet-friendly housing, affordable vet care, and ethical adoption resources — all while advocating for the dogs who deserve better.
From the streets of Brooklyn to homes across NYC, our history is rooted in love, advocacy, and the belief that pit bulls are family.
