The Samaritans of New York

The Samaritans of New York is the local branch of the world's oldest and largest volunteer crisis response network with 400 centers in 40 countries. A non-religious, non-profit organization, Samaritans is devoted to helping people who feel depressed, in crisis or suicidal as well as those who provide care and support to people in crisis and those who have lost a loved one to suicide. Samaritans runs NYC's 24-hour suicide prevention hotline, which responded to over 65,000 calls last year, as well as support groups for suicide survivors and a community public education program that raises awareness around suicide and trains guidance counselors, social workers, clinicians and other health providers in the keys to prevention.
