Organization Profile

Mixteca Organization Inc.

https://www.mixteca.org/

Enrich, Equip, and Empower the Latinx Community in Brooklyn and Beyond. At Mixteca, we believe cultural transformation happens when we empower individuals. We believe everyone has the right to thrive, regardless of political and social barriers. And we believe immigrants and asylum seekers possess incredible potential that is only realized when we actively address risk factors in our community like poverty, limited educational resources, lack of legal advocacy, and unequal access to culturally appropriate socio-emotional support and mental health counseling. We serve as a second home that offers mental and physical health services. We provide education and skill-building for sustainable livelihoods. We enfranchise our community through immigrant and legal advocacy. While we have passionately served the burgeoning Latinx population in Sunset Park since 2000, we believe these actions have powerful ripple effects that transcend a single neighborhood. Our community has the potential to create positive change throughout Brooklyn, New York City, and beyond.
