Who Is Eligible?

This program is designed specifically for first-year, incoming college students living in NYCHA residences transitioning into dormitory or off-campus housing.

You must be a first-year, incoming college student for Fall 2026.

You must currently live in a NYCHA residence.

You must be transitioning into dormitory or off-campus housing for college.

To be eligible you must meet all three of the following:
You are a first-year, incoming college student enrolling for Fall 2026.
You currently live in a NYCHA residence.
You are transitioning into dormitory or off-campus housing for college.
No — Project Move-In Day is exclusively for first-year, incoming students attending college for the first time in Fall 2026. Returning students are not eligible.
No — you can be attending any accredited college or university, including CUNY, SUNY, private colleges, and out-of-state schools.
Everyone who submits an application will receive a confirmation email from NYC Service. If your application is missing housing documentation, you will also receive a separate follow-up email with a personalized link to submit your housing proof. That link is unique to your application — do not share it with anyone else.
Your spot is not guaranteed until you submit proof of housing and your application is fully verified.
You can still submit your application now — we encourage you to apply early even without your housing documents. Once your housing is confirmed, look for the follow-up email from NYC Service. It will contain a personalized link you can use to upload your proof.
Kits are first-come, first-served. Don't wait too long — upload your housing proof as soon as it's available.
Click the link in the email — it will take you directly to your application. From there you can upload your housing document. This link is unique to your application, so make sure you're using the one sent specifically to your email address.

You may submit any one of the following:
📄Housing assignment letter — from your college's residential life office showing your room and move-in date for Fall 2026
📄Room deposit receipt — confirmation that your housing deposit was paid and applied to Fall 2026
📄Housing contract — signed on-campus housing agreement for Fall 2026
📄Bursar / student account statement — showing a housing charge billed to your account for Fall 2026
📄Financial aid award letter — showing a housing allowance as part of your aid package
Yes — a screenshot of an official email from your college is accepted. Your screenshot must clearly show:
Sender's email from an official college domain (e.g. @cuny.edu, @nyu.edu)
Your full name as the recipient
Date the email was received
Confirmation of housing for Fall 2026
Submit what you have — our team will review it and follow up if anything additional is needed.
NYCHA will verify your residency directly using the information you provide on your application. Make sure your NYCHA development name and home address are filled in accurately.
Verification timelines vary. We recommend submitting your application as early as possible to allow enough time for review before Move-In Day. You will be notified once your application is fully verified.
No — your spot is not guaranteed until your housing proof has been submitted and your application is fully verified. Kits are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
