Year Round Activation Kit
This Seasonal Activation Kit offers CSR professionals a roadmap for meaningful, moment-based engagement throughout the year. Whether you're aligning your team with local needs in the spring, summer, or winter, NYC Service provides guidance and inspiration to support inclusive, community-centered action.
Why Year-Round Engagement Matters
Meaningful service doesn’t just happen during a single day of action—it’s built across seasons, through consistent partnership, reflection, and community care. Companies that anchor civic engagement into their annual rhythm create lasting connections between employees and the city they call home.
Seasonal Moments to Engage
Across every season, there are meaningful ways to activate your team in service to New York City. These moments offer natural alignment with employee engagement, DEI, and social impact goals—while meeting community needs with dignity and care.
🌱 Spring & Summer: Support Student Transitions
Help youth prepare for new chapters—whether it's school readiness, dorm move-ins, or first-year career coaching. These months are ideal for mentoring events, skills-building workshops, and packing essential kits.
🍁 Fall: Champion Academic & Career Exploration
Engage with youth-serving nonprofits and schools through back-to-school drives, job-shadow days, or resume support sessions. Ideal for professional affinity groups and early-career employees to give back.
❄️ Winter: Build Belonging & Community
Participate in city-coordinated activations that uplift children, families, and older adults during the holiday season. Great for office-based engagement and employee resource groups.
🌍 Year-Round: Align with Days of Service
Plan engagement around nationally recognized moments—like MLK Day, Earth Day, International Women’s Day, or Veterans Day. These are great anchors for purpose-driven volunteerism and reflection.
NYC Service In-Kind Opportunities
Looking for inspiration? NYC Service collaborates with City agencies and companies to bring seasonal engagement to life in ways that are coordinated, equitable, and human-centered.
🧳 Project Move-In Day
Project Move-In Day recruits business partners to pack and donate essential home-supplies for college-bound students who are part of the Department of Homeless Services’ Future Leaders Scholars Program or a resident of New York City Housing Authority Developments. Students in this program, all graduating seniors, are transitioning into campus/off-campus housing.
Learn More❄️ Secret Snowflake
Secret Snowflake is the Mayor’s Office’s annual winter gift-giving initiative which mobilizes private sector employees and other groups to answer wishes, or "letters", from youth in-need. Aside from answering letters, volunteers can support by providing an online in-kind donation or monetary donation to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance NYC.
